As close as you will ever be to a nuclear explosion
THIS IS FUCKING TERRIFYING
No thank you.
The columns of smoke in the foreground are telephone poles boiling
You’re half right, the heat exceeds 1,000 degrees celcius, but thats generally at the center of the blast, there is heat to the blast wave, though its significantly less, but it hasn’t hit yet, so it must be the Ionizing Radiation (that’s the ‘flash’ everyone talks about) which, markedly, can start fires and cause serious injury wouldn’t ‘boil’ (though the correct term would be subliming) it’s just on fire. though the wind from the blast, which is usually several hundred thousand miles per hour (approaching the speed of sound) puts out those fires, of course it also applies a pressure of ~8 psi which sounds really small but that kind of pressure would turn your hand blue in a second, think of what it does to your lungs, not to mention it destroyed two cities with buildings made of you know, cement and all that strong stuff. Nukes are cool.
